What does an ecolabel cost?

When you apply for an ecolabel you pay an application fee. If/when your application is approved you will as a licence holder be charged an annual licence fee. The following is an overview of the fees.

  • The application fee covers administrative expenses when you apply for an ecolabel, when you renew your licence following a criteria revision or when you alter your licence.
  • The annual licence fee entitles you to use the ecolabel on your product and in your marketing material.

The licence fee payable for the Nordic Ecolabel is calculated based on the turnover of the ecolabelled product. Information on turnover must be supplied, as required by Ecolabelling Denmark at the start of each new calendar year. The licence fee for the EU Ecolabel is a fixed annual amount.

Fees are subject to VAT. The invoice is payable within 30 days.

The right to use the ecolabels ceases if fees are not paid within the time stated. The same applies if the required information on turnover regarding Nordic ecolabelled products is not provided on time.

The term “fee” is related to Danish legislation on taxes, duties and fees. Ecolabelling Denmark operates on a non-profit basis and is supported financially by the government. As a result, all fees received are spent on promoting ecolabelling in Denmark.
